Saint-Tropez

Legendary seaside resort

Saint-Tropez located in the western part of the French Riviera is one of the most famous resorts in Europe, a coastal town, internationally known and synonymous with many icons of the international "jet set" who visit every summer since the heyday of the 1950's and remains well known for its beaches and nightlife.

The region attracted the likes of Signac, Matisse, Bonnard, Hockney and Picasso well before Brigitte Bardot came to St-Tropez in the '50s to star in the film And God Created Woman in 1956 which along with French comedy series Le Gendarme de Saint-Tropez, transformed the quiet fishing village into a select destination for the rich and famous. The town has prospered on the images ever since.

The most well-known part of Saint-Tropez is the old port, where we find the large port, the cobbled streets of the old town pay reference to the towns past as a fishing village, though the Super yachts in the Vieux Port have long since outnumbered fishing boats. Simply sitting on one of the many cafe and bar terraces that line the port one can easily spend time just watching the world go by.

Other quintessential St-Trop landmarks are the Place des Lices, St-Tropez's renowned and very delightful central square which is lined with Sycamore trees, encircled by luxury boutiques, cafes and petanque players. The citadel dominates the hillside overlooking St-Tropez built in 1602 to defend the coast against Spain, the church de St-Tropez Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption is an example of Italian baroque style in the vieux quartier La Ponche with charming small beach.

Other than the charms of the town, there are many exquisite neighbourhoods with villas for rental not far from the town that are much sought-after in the long summer months for those staying on the French Riviera. St Tropez s famous beaches are located to the south of the town and east of Ramatuelle, along a five-kilometre stretch of coast in Pampelonne, from Cap du Pinet to the Cap du Camarat headlands, this is the favourite hangout of celebrities and fans of relaxation, where you find to famous beach clubs such as Club 55, Nikki beach and Tahiti Beach.
